Our Organization –
Dancing Classrooms is an
in-school residency for every
child, regardless of background,
experience and abilities.

In 2007 Jane Brooks, Joyce Burd and Harvey Kimmel founded Arts in Schools Collaborative with an organizational mission of bringing the arts to the inner city schools. Our primary program is Dancing Classrooms Philly, a licensed ballroom dancing program for Philadelphia schoolchildren.
To date, Dancing Classrooms Philly has reached nearly 8,000 Philadelphia fifth-graders in hundreds of public, charter and Catholic school classrooms. The program’s specially trained
teaching artists teach a variety of social dances. As seen in the documentary film “Mad Hot Ballroom," Dancing Classrooms is an in-school residency for every child, regardless of background, experience and abilities.
The 10 week, twice weekly, program culminates in the Colors of the Rainbow Team Match Final Competition (hyperlink), a city-wide competition, held each spring, an event which is open to the public at no cost.
